Mother Leeds was supposedly a witch and prophesied this child would be born as the Devil himself. Although born looking like a normal child, the entity quickly morphed into the aforementioned creature, killing the midwife before flying up the chimney and out into the woods. It would be seen circling in the air above many villages in what is now known as Atlantic, New Jersey. A clergyman exorcised the demon from the area in 1740 whereupon it was not seen for nearly 80 years.
In 1820, Joseph Bonaparte, elder brother of the French leader Napoleon, claimed to see the Jersey Devil while hunting on his Borden estate. Twenty years later, several livestock killings were blamed on the beast.

There have been several tales surrounding the Devil in the 20th century:

1909: Hundreds of claimed encounters with the Jersey Devil were posted in newspapers all over the state. These included the creature attacking a trolley car in Haddon Heights and a social club in Camden. Camden police fired at the creature without stopping it. Strange footprints in the snow and other sightings of the Devil were reported throughout the state, prompting several schools and businesses to close. The Philadelphia Zoo offered a $10,000 rewards for the creature's dung.

1925: A corpse matching the description of the beast was reported in Greenwich when a farmer shot the animal as it tried to steal his chickens. The creature defied formal identification.

1937: Downingtown, Pennsylvania residents reported seeing an unknown animal with red eyes that matched the description of the New Jersey Devil.

1951: A group of Gibbstown, New Jersey, boys claimed to have seen a monster matching the Devil's description.

1957: Another corpse was found with the features of the Leeds demon.

Despite the non-believers, it cannot be disputed that New Jersey Devils can indeed be found. They play for the National Hockey League, having adopted their name from the famous tales of the area's flying monster when they moved to Newark, New Jersey, in 1982.

Twenty years later, he traveled to Paris, choosing to live in self-exile rather than under repression of Imperial Russia. Twenty years after his move, Chopin lay gasping for breath on his death bed, whispering a final request: "Remove my heart after I die and entomb it in Poland." Chopin had possessed a fear of being buried alive. Removal of his heart would not only ensure this never happened, but that part of him would return to his beloved homeland.

While the composer's body has rested in peace at Paris' famed Pere Lachaise Cemetery, his heart has endured a wild journey of intrigue:

1. It was first sealed in a jar of cognac liquor.

2. His sister, Ludwika, smuggled it under her skirts past Russian border guards to Chopin's hometown of Warsaw.

3. The heart was kept in the family for several years, and then...

4. ... passed through the hands of several relatives.

5. It was eventually enshrined within a pillar in central Warsaw's Baroque Holy Cross Church.

6. During World War II, Chopin's heart fell into the clutches of the Nazis during the Warsaw Uprising of 1944. Germans felt the organ rightfully belonged to them due to the musical influence they believed Germanys' great composers had had on Chopin. Going block by block, the Nazis would slaughter 200,000 Poles in retribution for the would-be revolution, yet they took great pains to preserve the composer's relic.

7. After the war, the heart was returned to the Polish church with ceremony meant to show German respect towards the composer.

8. The organ has been subsequently exhumed several times.

9. The most recent exhumation was conducted in a secret operation this year.

For years, Chopin experts had petitioned to carry out genetic testing on the heart to establish whether the sickly genius died of tuberculosis (as is generally believed), cystic fibrosis (a disease unknown at the time) or from some other cause. Their efforts had been, however, stymied by the Polish church and government. As custodians of the heart, all requests had been refused partly because of opposition from one of Chopin's distant relatives. This year, however, consent was finally granted to a superficial inspection after a forensic scientist raised the alarm that the alcohol could have evaporated over the years, leaving the heart to dry up and darken.

Thus, thirteen people -- sworn to secrecy -- gathered in the dark sanctuary of Holy Cross Church on April 14, 2015. The group, focused and in whispers, removed the heart from its resting place to take more than 1,000 photos of it and add hot wax to the jar's seal to prevent evaporation. Prayers were recited over the heart as it was returned to its niche. Although these photos were not released to the public, it was reported that the heart appeared as an enlarged white lump submerged in an amber-colored fluid within a crystal jar.

Interested scientists will have another chance to conduct their genetic tests on the heart when the next exhumation occurs -- scheduled 50 years from now.
PattonGeneral George S. Patton was convinced that he was a solder and a great general in his many past lives and had no problem meshing his Protestant faith with his reincarnation beliefs. Always a soldier, he once stood shoulder to shoulder with Alexander the Great and Napoleon. He crossed the Alps on an elephant while residing in the body of the Carthaginian conqueror Hannibal. Patton was also quite certain that he once fought for the great Caesar as a Roman legionary.

These beliefs were strengthened by two very prominent occurrences during World War I: On one occasion, he found himself pressed to the ground during a battle, terrified to stand and fight. He saw the faces of his dead grandfather and several uncles demanding that he stop being a coward. The other instance took place in Langres, France, once occupied by the ancient Romans. Though having never visited the city, Patton was able to navigate his way without the help of his French liaison officer. He gave the Frenchman a tour of the Roman ruins: the amphitheater, parade ground, and various temples dedicated to a deity. He also drove straight to the spot where Caesar had once camped and pointed to where the Roman leader had once pitched his tent. (from "Killing Patton" by Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard.)

When Patton died in 1945, both his daughters experienced a last paranormal good-bye from their general father. Ruth Ellen woke up at the moment of his death and saw him standing at the floor of her bed in full uniform. "'I sat up in bed -- I could see him plainly. When he saw I was looking at him, he gave me the sweetest smile I've ever seen,'" she recounted.

Ruth Ellen called her sister, Beatrice, the next morning. Beatrice had had a similar experience. She had been fast asleep when the phone by her bed rang. She picked it up and there was a lot of static as if it were an overseas call. She heard her father's voice ask, "Little Bee, are you alright?" before the line went dead. When young Beatrice called the overseas operator, she was told there had been no call. (from "The Button Box: A Daughter's Loving Memoir of Mrs. George S. Patton by Ruth Ellen Patton.)
"Haunted?"
Reviewed December 6, 2011

"Am I the only one who had a paranormal experience at this hotel??? It's a great place to stay but I got really scared so we checked out one day early. This was back in January of 2007. I woke up around 1:45am to use the bathroom. I was in one of the beds with my young daughter and my husband was in the other. The suites are large (very nice) and as I walked toward the bathroom, I could hear a man and a young girl conversing back and forth. It was very muffled but I heard it. I back [sic] up to check on my daughter and husband and of course, they were both sound asleep like they were seconds before when I got out of bed. As I got closer to the bathroom, I heard a little girl's voice singing "lalalalala..." very faintly. I couldn't understand why I would hear someone talking in another room? outside the hotel room door? -- because it was the beginning of January and the hotel was virtually empty. I thought only 3 of the 8 rooms on the floor were taken. Also, why would a young kid be awake at the time of the morning? Anyway, I proceeded into the bathroom and as I'm about to sit on the toilet, very LOUD in my ear, I head a man's voice say "GOOD MORNING!" It scared me sooo much!

I ran out the bathroom hitting my thigh on the point of the dresser. Jumped back into the bed with my daughter and just lay there quietly, listening. Never heard anything else and eventually I drifted off back so sleep. I told my husband about it first thing in the morning. It was so surreal but I know what I heard! This happened on our 2nd night there and although we checked out one day early, it was not because of the hotel itself, which I thought was really nice. If you want to try and have an encounter with something "unknown" -- I would recommend staying there.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06749594971779339073noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6266840621835329854.post-87678640469085179932015-06-04T15:16:00.005-04:002015-06-04T15:16:48.043-04:00The Legend of Azzurrina

Ugolinuccio Malatesta did not understand this poor twist of luck. He was the feudal lord of a magnificent castle, Castello di Montebello Terriana, he had magnificent holdings, envied by all far and wide... but now his newborn daughter, Guendalina, had been born an albino. She would be considered evil and burned at the stake as were all albinos in 1375 A.D. Italy.

"Do not worry, my love. I have a plan. It will work," his beloved wife told Ugolinuccio. And so it was that Guendalina's white hair was dyed with natural herbs. Unfortunately, albino hair did not hold color well, and the child's locks turned a bluish tint. With her eyes also a light shade of blue, she earned the nickname Azzurrina or Little Blue One. She spent most of her time in the castle since her pale skin did not tolerate sun well.

The time came when castle staff was busy with preparations for the approaching summer solstice celebration. Azzurina's father gave her a new red rag ball to entertain her and keep her out of the way. The child was enchanted with the new toy -- rolling, throwing it into the air, and kicking it. Down the stairs it rolled into a basement room with Azzurrina fast behind, laughing gaily.

Azzurrina would never be seen again. She would, however, be heard: laughing, crying, running, yelling "Papa, Papa, I'm here!" every five years on June 21st, the summer solstice.

On June 21, 1990 (the summer solstice), an investigative team came to the castle armed with ghost-hunting equipment. Not only did they capture recordings of the aforementioned sounds, but an apparition of the small girl was also seen holding her red ball. Investigations have since commenced every five years on the summer solstice with "Azzurinna activity" always being captured with paranormal equipment.

Scientific recreation of Richard III's face

The royal body had been missing since 1485. For two days, its mortal remains had hung in the city square, proving the king was dead. Then, his body was hurriedly thrown into a shallow, dirt grave to be found centuries later in a hidden, long-forgotten tomb.

Although ruling a scant 2 years, Richard III has always had numerous stories and rumors swirl around him and his reign. The last of the Platagenet dynasty to rule England, Richard III was depicted as a repulsive monster and a hunchback with a withered arm. His life and throne had been lost in the final skirmish of the decade-long War of the Roses -- a humiliating loss as Richard III had the larger army and greater support from the English people.

In 1924, the Richard III Society was created, and members began the laborious task of separating fact from fiction surrounding the king. Their first task: finding his lost body.

It was known that Richard III was originally buried inside the GreyFriars Church of the Annunciation of Mary the Virgin, but the church had been demolished in 1538 with no records detailing its location. Five hundred years later and using old maps, Phillip Langley guesstimated what she believed to be the location of the body under a concrete car park in Leicester.

Digging began August 24, 2012 over a mysterious white-written "R" written on the concrete parking lot. Richard's remains were immediately found at odds of 1,785 to 1 that he would be discovered on day one of the search. His skeleton was completely intact including a predominately curved spinal column. Mitochondrial DNA from a tooth proved positive the identity of the ancient monarch.
His remains told volumes. As foretold, Richard III's spine did have a severe curvature from scoliosis, but there was no sign of the fabled withered arm. Other discoveries: two mortal blows had shattered his skull; his diet was rich in fish, sugar and carbohydrates; Richard would have been 5'8" had he a straight spine; the king greatly suffered from round worms (up to a foot long); and, he ground his teeth presumably from stress. Through forensic science used on his skull, technicians were also able to re-create his looks and prove the accuracy of early portraiture.

This story serves as a perfect illustration that ghost hunting need not be a daytime preoccupation or an old house the only site worth investigating for spirits. Although there has been no publicity surrounding a ghost investigation at this site, it would be an interesting venture -- and a reminder that we never know what buried secrets lay beneath our feet as we tread throughout the day -- be they old relics, burial grounds ... or the bones of royalty.

In the Bible there are seven days of creation, seven virtues, seven deadly sins, seven pillars of wisdom, seven sorrows (and joys) of the Virgin, seven divisions of the Lord's Prayer, seven sacraments, seven cardinal sins, and seven graces.

The Book of Revelations, the last chapter of the New Testament, is built around the number seven. It speaks of seven trumpets (heralding the end of days), seven golden lamp stands (representing the seven churches of the apocalypse), seven golden stars (representing the seven angels of the apocalypse), seven spirits before the throne of God, seven plagues, seven bowls of wrath, seven vials, seven judgments, seven kings, a seven-headed beast, a dragon with seven heads wearing seven diadems, a lamb with seven eyes, and an earthquake that kills seven thousand people.

The three most important Jewish feasts each lasts seven days, as do Levitical purifications, and the sabbatical occurs every seven years. Ancient astrologers recognized seven plants. In Islam, there are seven heavens and seven holy sleepers. Buddhists revere the seven treasures. In many religions, the seventh son of a seventh son is endowed with magical powers. Japanese folklore has seven gods of good fortune.

There are seven days in a week, seven seas, seven continents, seven wonders of the ancient world, and seven whole notes in a Western scale. Shakespeare famously wrote of the seven ages of man. The average number of objects a human being can retain in short-term memory is seven. (This is why phone numbers have seven digits.)

The four most haunted buildings are churches, hospitals, jails, and schools. Toss in a school built on top of a cemetery and you have a different definition of "school spirit."

Lee Williams High School in Kingman, Arizona is one of these schools. Ghosts have appeared at graduation events in prairie gowns and 19th century men's suits. A man wearing a bowler hat and long coat lurks in the hallways; a little girl calls out at night asking to go out and play. There are also cold spots, disembodied footsteps, flickering lights, and alarms and motion detectors that go off randomly.

Kingman was the site of many battles between Native American tribes and settlers who arrived after the area was annexed from Mexico in 1848. These settlers needed the water at the springs where the tribes lived. Conflict ensued, and then violence. Those who died were buried at Pioneer Cemetery in unmarked graves. This site later became part of the school's football field with a set of bleachers resting on top of the graves of 350 settlers and more than 70 Hualapai.

Then, bodies were discovered two years ago. Fifty workers were digging a trench behind the bleachers in construction of the new high school. They unearthed 11 grave sites, seven coffins and cuff links, medallion, jewelry and a brass nameplate. Drake Havatone, Hualapai tribal elder, was called in.

"We believe it's a taboo to move or disturb a body, because the spirits become unrestful," Drake said. "Many will be angry." Havatone performed a ceremony to pacify the spirits, blessing all the spirits along with the workers who had disturbed the graves. "Spirits will sometimes go home with the person who disturbs them," Havatone had said. A cleansing of the workers left them pacified as well.

The new high school opened in 2012. No word yet on whether the hauntings continue.
It's a great place to stay but I got really scared so we checked out one day early. This was back in January of 2007. I woke up around1:45 a.m. to use the bathroom. I was in one of the beds with my young daughter and my husband was in the other. The suites are large (very nice) and as i walked toward the bathroom, I could hear a man and a young girl conversing back and forth. It was very muffled but I heard it. I back up to check on my daughter and husband and of course, they were both sound asleep like they were seconds before when i got out of bed. As i got closer to the bathroom, i heard a little girl's voice singing "lalalalala..." very faintly. I couldn't understand why I would hear someone talking in another room? outside the hotel room door? - because it was beginning of Janauary and the hotel was virtually empty. I thought only 3 of the 8 rooms on the floor were taken. Also, why would a young kid be awake at the time of the morning? Anyway, I proceeded into the bathroom and as I'm about to sit on the toilet, very LOUD in my ear, I hear a man's voice say "GOOD MORNING!" It scared me sooo much! I ran out the bathroom hitting my thigh on the point of the dresser. Jumped back into the bed with my daughter and just lay there quietly, listening. Never heard anything else and eventually I drifted off back to sleep. I told my husband about it first thing in the morning. It was so surreal but I know what i heard! This happened on our 2nd night there and although we checked out one day early, it was not because of the hotel itself, which I thought was really nice. If you want to try and have an encounter with something "unknown" - I would recommend staying there.
Now there's one more item to check off: Dealing with the digital accounts of the deceased. It has become a rather messy and complicated process and, while Oklahoma, Idaho, Rhode Island, Indiana and Connecticut have established legislation regulating email accounts, that still leaves a slew of online social media options that all have differing policies governing the postmortem handling. Among the outstanding issues: Who gets to decide what to do with the deceased's social media accounts?

New Hampshire state representative Peter Sullivan is introducing legislation saying the executor of the estate should be in control. He cites the story of a young Canadian girl who committed suicide because of bullying. The taunts continued on facebook even after her death. "The family wasn't able to do anything because they didn't have access to her account," Sullivan said. "They couldn't go in and delete those comments, and they couldn't take the page down completely."

Early on, facebook gave three options: (1) Do nothing and let the account stand open, (2) Remove the listing entirely, or (3) Set the page up as an online memorial. For the latter, facebook requires family or friends to fill out a form to provide a link to an obituary or other information confirming a user's death. Users will then cease showing up in facebook's suggestions, they will not be included on the stream of user updates, and the profile will be sealed from future log-in attempts. The account's wall will remain open for people wishing to pay respects.

Other social media sites are struggling with the question of what to do with users' accounts post mortem; Twitter, MySpace, Pinterest and other social media companies currently have no set policies.

Some lawmakers think the federal government should step in with legislation. Ryan Kiesel, former state legislator from Oklahoma, says: "The federal government should pass uniform laws to govern all digital assets ... it is quite difficult for an estate to have to navigate endless numbers of digital policies postmortem."

Although the legal process is unable to keep up with the quick evolution of today's technology, and facebook is thus far the only social media company to set policies for "dead" accounts, one thing is certain: There is now yet one more avenue of immortality... through the facebook profile.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06749594971779339073noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6266840621835329854.post-4552446432440696862013-05-30T22:53:00.005-04:002013-05-31T16:08:42.894-04:00The Pink Lady of Ghost Park Inn

The Grove Park Inn denied it for years: There were no hauntings, no pink apparitions,
no ghostly phenomena. But after 80 years of sightings, reports and screams, the
Inn could no longer deny it; the Grove Park Inn was indeed haunted by a young woman
dressed in a flowing pink gown.

The Pink Lady has been an unregistered visitor of
the Grove Park Inn for over 80 years and has been witnessed by senior management, children, maintenance personnel, security. It is told the pink-clad ghost fell to her death in the Palm Court atrium circa 1920. Not so, according to the Asheville Paranormal Society. Their investigations led to communications with the ghost; The Pink Lady told them her name was Katie. Employed as a servant in a wealthy, aristocratic household, Katie says she became pregnant by the master of the house. He had a reputation to protect, a position to safeguard. Katie was pushed from an upper floor of the Inn onto the stones of the Palm Court atrium. She and the baby were no longer inconvenient.

The Pink Lady has been seen in a number of places within the historic Main Inn although the greatest amount of energy and paranormal occurrences seem to revolve around room 545. Among the witnessed accounts:

Manager of Elaine's, the GPI nightclub: "It's like a real dense smoke -- a pinkish pastel that just flows. It's a real gentle spirit whatever it is." The manager has seen the spirit several times in 5 years.

Although the hotel was closed and locked for the winter, 2 employees saw all the 6th floor guest room lights come on and then off followed by the lights in the Main Inn following suit.
The President of the National Federation of Press Women experienced toe tickling in the middle of the night ... twice.

Employees report The Pink Lady likes to manipulate the environment, turning on and off the lights all at once, pulling back curtains, turning on televisions and radios.

Yes, scores of people have seen, sensed and been touched by the spirit of The Pink Lady and, as the unexplained and reports continue to occur, a substantial waiting list grows - of those courageous visitors who want to stay in room 545.

Montford Strolls! We recently spoke to Chattanooga Ghost Tours who has used the Ovilus for two years with excellent and satisfying results. We decided to bring the Ovilus on board for the Montford tour to extend guests' experience with different types of paranormal equipment. We're still using the digital thermometers, EMF meters and dowsing rods on the Downtown Spirits Tour.

The Ovilus is going to be a LOT of fun. It was developed by Bill Chappell, a retired electronics engineer, to facilitate communication with ghosts. The Ovilus measures and interprets environmental energy fields and translates these into audible speech using a synthesizer chip, 512-word dictionary, and 71 phonetic syllables-- the latter to report words not in the dictionary. Mr. Chappell specifically states his devices do not employ any type of random generation, sweep functioning or programmed algorithms for results.

The Ovilus has seven modes: (1) Dictionary, (2) Q&A, (3) Phonetic, (4) Reverse Phonetic, (5) Touch, (6) White Noise, (7) Energy Scope, (8) Draw, (9) Utility, and (10) Sync. These various settings allow users to measure energy, ask questions, "hear" ghosts, and even sync the Ovilus to other ghost-hunting equipment. A speech synthesizer utters the words while also spelling them across a screen.

As with everything paranormal, there are cheerleaders and naysayers and mixed reviews. The fun, though, will be in the journey and the experience. Come join us!!

Paranormal: The word conjures up visions of mist, ghosts, disembodied voices, and transparent apparitions. Yet the current theory of the supernatural is far more involved; it is even suggested our brains are incapable of imagining the big picture.

It's all about "The String Theory" which, simply put, states there are dimensions beyond the three we inhabit. Although invisible to us, these other parallel dimensions exist very close to our own. Scientists posit there may well be inhabitants in these other dimensions and, when the planes of two dimensions collide, there appears a brief window into the other world in which those inhabitants can be seen. This could be then a partial explanation of shadow people or apparitions. Perhaps even residual energy.

In other words, think of a particular piece of ground as a hotel. It's the same plot of ground, but there are different people and different activities going on in each dimension (or floor) of that spot. When planes collide, we sometimes see and capture pictures of those people and activities.

This picture illustrates one facet of this idea. Taken in the backyard of 1900 Inn on Montford, the spectres are hovering above the ground because, according to a psychic who investigated the property, these forms are the ghosts of 2 men and a woman (middle figure) who were alive in 1896 before the house was built. They are standing on what they knew to be the ground before it was graded and altered for the house to be constructed. Navigating in the pre-house world of 1896, they do not know the house is there.

In another curious episode, Matt Canfield of the Mississippi Paranormal Society told Ghost Hunters of Asheville a story relayed by a T.A.P.S. TV show member. According to this cast member, T.A.P.S. established communication with a ghost via an EMF meter: One blink = yes, two blinks = no. When asked if they saw us as shadow people, the ghost replied affirmatively: Yes!

Lastly, in a belief long held by psychics, scientists are now beginning to look at small particles as vibrations that are beginning to mesh with those of other dimensions, thereby increasing the recent number of experiences we're now having with ghosts and shadow people.
To see these theories in action, watch the movie "The Caller" which is currently streaming on Netflix. It illustrated these principles beautifully and understandably -- while giving the viewer a chill or two.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06749594971779339073noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6266840621835329854.post-29094561129219411892013-04-29T11:06:00.001-04:002013-04-29T11:06:22.439-04:00The Ghosts of Ford's Theater
Ford's Theater in Washington DC was built in 1833 as a Baptist Church. It transitioned into a live performance theater in 1861 and launched into the American consciousness when President Abraham Lincoln was assassination by John Wilkes Booth during the play Our American Cousin.

The federal government took possession of the building after threats of arson were made against the theater's owner should it reopen after the assassination. The theater was converted into a 3-story office building that housed the Army Medical Museum, the War Department, and the Office of the Surgeon General.

On June 8, 1893, the front of the building collapsed, plunging workers, desks and filing cabinets into its cellar. Sixty-five people were injured; 22 were killed. The building was largely left vacant for 60 years until Congress approved funds for restoration. The theater was reopened on January 30, 1868 as a National Historic Site and working theater. Ford's Theater today still presents live theater productions and is an organized museum of Lincoln's Presidency, assassination and legacy.

The theater plays host to many paranormal spectacles as part of the many traumatic deaths which have occurred there. Residual energy is witnessed as the events of Lincoln's assassination occasionally repeats itself by the sounds of running footsteps headed towards Lincoln's box, a gunshot, screams and shouts of murder. A witness has seen an apparition of Mrs. Lincoln at the railing of their former theater box and pointing to the stage shouting, "He has killed the President!" as she did at the time of the murder. Actors have reported experiencing an intense cold spot on stage left that has caused them to become nauseous or have uncontrollable tremors. Booth's spirit has also been seen scurrying across the stage, re-enacting his getaway.

An orb is loosely defined as "the soul of a once living person or animal that appears in photographs as a spherical[ly] shaped light." Both ghosts and spirits can manifest as an orb (The Orb Controversy, Miller's Paranormal Research, 2001). Many paranormal investigators pooh-pooh most orbs in photographs as dust, small flying insects, light refractions, et.al. Whatever. All I know is that we, at Ghost Hunters of Asheville Tours, get a lot of them.

An orb is the lowest-energy manifestation of a ghost or spirit. Ghosts need energy to manifest and move, but cannot create energy -- only steal it. Common sources of such paranormal theft on our tour include lightning, electrical wiring, cell phone batteries, even us! Once ghosts' reservoirs are full, they tend to be conservative with their supply so most often choose to manifest as orbs since these take the least amount of their energy.

If you get an orb in a photograph, you might want to zoom in on it as faces and words can sometimes be embedded in them.

A last, sobering thought regarding orbs: Guests reveal that the most orbs they've ever gotten in photographs are at Ground Zero.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06749594971779339073noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6266840621835329854.post-71233107416881780862013-04-23T20:08:00.000-04:002013-04-23T20:08:30.461-04:00The Pizza-Loving Ghost

They called Utah Paranormal Exploration and Research (UPER) to investigate. Their research uncovered:

* The sighting of several apparitions including a man, woman and two boys.
* A jukebox that played when unplugged.
* Mysterious whistling
* A tile floor that arbitrarily bulged ten inches and then flattened out
* Forty fluorescent light tubes flying from their boxes and smashing on the floor

UPER discovered that the restaurant had been built upon an old pauper's field, accounting for the extreme paranormal activity. UPER's general manager, Merry Barrentine, took a photo of this misty apparition in the restaurant in 2000. Several witnesses also saw it with the naked eye.
It's a jump rope ditty surviving over 110 years: “Lizzy Borden took an axe and gave her mother forty whacks. And when the job was nicely done, she gave her father forty-one."
Lizzy Borden entered the world of infamy on August 4, 1892 when her father, Andrew Borden, and stepmother Abby were killed in savage axe attacks. Lizzy, then 32, lived in the back of the upstairs part of her father's house with Emma, her older spinster sister. The house was also occupied by the family's maid, Bridget "Maggie" Sullivan.

The Fall River, Massachusetts, murder case became an immediate "whodunit" national obsession. Emma had been out-of-town, Maggie in her bed from a migraine headache, and Lizzy in the barn looking for fishing sinkers when the crime occurred. Because Lizzy was the only person readily available to commit the murders, she was the target of investigations.

Some little-known facts of the case:

The District Attorney begged several times to not pursue the case against Lizzie, citing a tremendous lack of evidence.

Police officers were caught in several lies during court testimony, specifically concerning the presentation of the would-be weapon (which was proven to be the wrong size hatchet blade with no trace of blood) and the absence of footprints in the barn (when several others had already been there).

The assailant was left-handed, the opposite of Lizzie.

The jury took only 10 minutes to acquit Lizzie.

There was no blood evidence incriminating Lizzie. None of her clothes were blood-spattered.

Abby Borden was killed 60 - 90 minutes before Andrew. She was murdered in the upstairs guest bedroom; Andrew was murdered while taking a daytime nap on the sofa.

The house was only 20 feet wide with no hallways. How 200-lb. Abby Borden fell with no one hearing has always been part of the mystery.

Andrew Borden had once been a coffin maker.

Lizzie had a dream team for a defense including former Massachusetts Governor George D. Robinson.

Although acquitted, Lizzie Borden remained a virtual prisoner the rest of her life in Fall River. She purchased a large, 3-story Queen Anne home christened "Maplecroft," and became a social pariah to the end of her life 34 years later: never married, shunned by her church, and reclusive to avoid the perpetual staring and pointing when she was in public. She changed her name from Lizzie to Lizbeth, dying of pneumonia in 1927 at 67 years. Her sister, Emma, died 10 days later.
THE DEAD LINCOLN'S YEARLY TRIP OVER THE NEW YORK CENTRAL RAILROAD

A correspondent in the Albany (N.Y.) Evening Times relates a conversation with a superstitious night watchman on the New York Central Railroad. Said the watchman: "I believe in spirits and ghosts. I know such things exist. If you will come up in April I will convince you." He then told of the phantom train that every year comes up the road with the body of Abraham Lincoln. Regularly in the month of April, about midnight, the air on the track becomes very keen and cutting. On either side it is warm and still. Every watchman when he feels this air steps off the track and sits down to watch. Soon after the pilot engine, with long black streamers, and a band of black instruments, playing dirges, grinning skeletons sitting all about, will pass up noiselessly, and the very air grows black. If it is moonlight clouds always come over the moon, and the music seems to linger, as if frozen with horror. A few moments after and the phantom train glides by. Flags and streamers hang about. The track ahead seems covered with black carpet, and the wheels are draped with the same. The coffin of the murdered Lincoln is seen lying on the centre of the car, and all about it in the air and the train behind are vast numbers of blue-coated men, some with coffins on their backs, others leaning on them.

It seems then that all the vast armies that died during the war are escorting the phantom train of the President. The wind, if blowing, dies away at once, and all over the earth a solemn hush, almost stifling, prevails. If a train were passing, its noise would be drowned in silence and the phantom train would ride over it. Clocks and watches would always stop, and when looked at are found to be from five to eight minutes behind. Everywhere on the road, about the 27th of April, the time of watches and trains is found suddenly behind. This, said the leading watchman, was from the passage of the phantom train.

The route taken by Lincoln's funeral train, in large part, still exists -- marked by ancient railroad beds and towns. New Yorkers who commute daily from bedroom communities along the Hudson River, north of Manhattan, don't realize that they are traveling the same route as the 16th President's funeral train. So it is for thousands of unknowing railroad passengers.
Nathaniel Hawthorne(1804-1864), is one of America's most important authors with such notable
works as The Scarlet Letter and The House of the Seven
Gables. Named for his latter work, Hawthorne's birth home is in
Salem, Massachusetts, and the site of this ghostly photograph taken in 2004.

A tourist perusing the home snapped this picture in Hawthorne's former yard. Closer examination
reveals the apparent apparition of a small boy in the shrubbery,
peering over the wooden fence. It is believed the ghost is that
of a young Julian Hawthorne, Nathaniel's young son. A comparison of the
ghostly figure and a photograph of a 5-year-old Julian reveals a striking and unmistakable resemblance.

There is perhaps no greater paranormal experience than receiving a phone call from a ghost. However unfathomable such an incident may seem, it's not necessarily an uncommon experience and was the subject of a ground-breaking book written by parapsychologists and psychic investigators D. Scott Rogo and Raymond Bayless.Their book, Phone Calls From The Dead, was published in 1979.

Rogo and Bayliss spent years researching the subject, combing the world over to find credible documentation. They discovered hundreds of well-documented accounts; many ghostly phone calls were witnessed by more than one person. Specifically, an individual answered the phone before turning it over to the person the spirit was calling for. In one case, two people on two separate phone held a "conference call" with a ghost. Most phone call recipients had no previous experience or interest with the paranormal. The phone call had been a one-time occurrence, brief, and the caller was typically a deceased relative or friend.

Rogo and Bayliss assert that nearly all of the cases fell into one of three categories:

1. Apparent Cases: The person receiving the call doesn't know the caller is dead and believes they are talking to a living person.
2. Intention Cases: The recipient receives an urgent phone call from a friend, relative or unknown individul (who explains they are placing the call for a friend or relative.) The witness later learns the friend never made the call nor authorized someone to call. The voice on the phone sounds exactly like that of a friend or relative.
3. Answer Cases: The recipient receives an urgent phone call from a friend, relative or uknown individual who claims to be placing the call for a friend or relative. The witness later learns the friend or relative never made the call nor authorized anyone to call. The voice on the phone sounds exactly like the friend or relative.

The researchers claim that most cases fall into the first scenario.
"Knowledge is Power." That includes knowing how to increase your odds in getting a true paranormal photo. We continue our tips:

13. Set your camera appropriately for conditions. Night-time settings for night-time scenes. The camera lens is open longer on low-light settings so hold the camera as steady as possible or you'll get self-created light squiggles.

14. Don't take photos of merely a clearing. Objects in the photograph add perspective and help with mild reflection.

15. Avoid lens flair by having light sources away from, or behind, you.

16. Flash only carries 15 feet. Any anomalies will be highlighted by flash within its 15-foot range.

17. Camera flash in a mirror's reflection can create what appears to be vapor, mist, and fog. Avoid them in photos.

18. Most ghost energy will appear 2 to 10 feet above the ground. With buildings, paranormal energy can appear at any level or height of a structure.

19. The best time of year for ghost-hunting is in the colder months, October through February, when electrostatic energy is at its strongest levels. The cold, however, only affects manifestations other than orbs. Orbs seem to be equal-opportunity seasonal appearances.

20. Ghosts are attracted to people. Curious, they hover to see what people are doing or hear what they're saying. Take pictures of people with space above their heads and to one side so there is room for anomalies to present. You also might try aiming your camera back over your shoulder to see who is following you!

These pointers will give any prospective ghost hunter a stronger start towards capturing a glimpse of other worlds. Good luck! Your paranormal album begins now!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06749594971779339073noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6266840621835329854.post-41263024362971936852013-02-19T16:26:00.000-05:002013-02-19T16:26:04.264-05:00All Ghosts: Say Cheese! There are, however, things you can do to increase your chances of obtaining an authentic, paranormal photograph. The following tips will help you win that Paranormal Photo Lottery!

1. Realize it's a numbers game. The more photos you take, the greater your odds for a paranormal photo. Sources say the odds of catching an anomaly is 1:50 so take lots of pictures!

2. Ghosts are everywhere all the time. They just don't always show up on film even though they're there.

3. Take photos at night using a flash. Yes, ghosts can show up on daytime photos, but the odds of photo capture increase with evening hours.

4. ANY type of camera will capture a ghostly image, even throwaways.

5. Ghosts are EVERYWHERE; they're not just in cemeteries or old buildings. Take a picture whenever, and wherever, the mood strikes you.

6. If using film, go with 400 speed. It's a great all-purpose film that works in most conditions.

7. Avoid taking pictures of objects with shiny surfaces such as glass or polished tombstones.

8. Don't take photos through a glass window as it can create shapes that aren't there. The older, wavy glass is the worst.

9. Keep a spotless camera lens. A smudge can cause false anomalies to show up in pictures.

10. Keep stray objects away from the camera lens: camera strap, lens cover, thumb, fingers. Long hair should be tied back.

11. Never take pictures when it's windy, foggy, rainy, dusty or snowing. Particles in the air can translate into non-ghostly orbs. A false reading.

12. Hold your breath when taking pictures in cold weather. Exhaled breath can appear as ectoplasmic mist (fog) in the picture. Another false reading.

December 1924: The S.S. Watertown is enroute from New York City to Panama Canal. Crew members James Courtney and Michael Meehan are killed through a freak accident of dying by gas fumes. The sailors were buried at sea off the Mexican coast.

The following day, the first mate reported seeing the faces of the two dead sailors in the waves off the ship's port side. They were visible for 10 seconds before fading. For several days thereafter, the phantom-like faces of the sailors were clearly seen by other members of the crew in the water following the ship. Captain Keith Tracy was successful in catching the images photographically, and the picture became one of the most famous paranormal photographs of all time.

Then in April 2010, paranormalist Blake Smith revealed the results of his in-depth investigation of the photo: It is a fake. Smith's research included searching the National Archives, recreation of the ship's stanchions and posts, Culver Studios and Reader's Digest. The photograph had been undeniably tampered with and, as Smith claims has thus, "no value as evidence for ... ghosts."
There's seldom a dull moment when a ghost is in the house. The sudden changes in temperature, a feeling of being watched, a tug of the hair when no one is around... If you long for a more placid life, there are many ways to rid yourself of an unwelcome ghostly presence. Here are just a few:

1. Imagine a white light surrounding you from head to toe as protection against danger and harm.

2. Legend claims that evil spirits avoid the sound of bells or wind chimes. Ever wonder why churches have bells?!

3. Burn protective herbs or weave them in decorative wreaths: basil, frankincense, lavender, myrrh, mandrake, rosemary, sage, valerian root, cedar wood, and orrisroot.

4. Pray for protection against evil and bad spirits.

5. Burn incense with oil essences of sandalwood, frankincense, rosemary, garlic or honeysuckle.

6. Wear a protective gemstone: tiger’s eye, diamond, clear quartz, hematite and Apache’s Tear. Silver, chalcedony and obsidian also ward off ghosts.

7. Hang garlic above a door.

8. Meditate daily for stronger spirituality.

9. Sixteenth century folklore claimed horseshoes ward off witches. Hang one above the front door, upside down or not.

10. Attach a mezuzah to the outside door for protection. Mezuzahs contain verses from the Torah.

11. In each room, hang a flat mirror that faces the doorway. A ghost will see its reflection and be scared away.

12. It is easier for ghosts to control people who constantly think negative thoughts or live in a state of fear. Think positive!

13. Be assertive with the ghost: Tell it to leave and not come back.
